Joan has owned and operated the dance portion of Frates Creative Arts Center for 25 years. However, Joan has been a dance educator for over 30 years! She is a member of the The Dance Teachers Club of Boston, Inc. with the American Society and Dance Masters of America. She is a licensed Zumba Instructor and holds a Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude, from The University of Massachusetts. She continues to train and keep up to date through workshops offered through her membership in National dance organizations.
As an experienced educator and choreographer, her work has been seen all over the Lakes Region. Over the years, she has choreographed for high schools, Streetcar Company, On Stage Theatre Company and Lakes Region Family Theater, to name a few. She choreographed dances that were performed in Russia and Lithuania with On Stage Theatre Co. and she and her husband have spent their summers educating children and putting on neighborhood style children theater performances that Joan both writes, costumes, and choreographs.
Most recently she was found working with her family as she co-choreographed On Stage Theatre Company’s production of “A Chorus Line”. The show was performed to raise money for scholarships for students majoring in dance or theater on the college level.
Although she now prefers being behind the scenes, Joan is no stranger to the stage. For years she could be found performing Illusions in magic shows with her husband and marching through the streets of New England with The NH Lawnchair Brigade. Her voice can be found on the record, “I’m Dancing with Mr. George”, produced by Hoctor records.
One of her favorite roles was Peter Pan, in Streetcar Company’s “Peter Pan”. She has also been found as different characters with On Stage Theatre Company’s Murder Mysteries that take place at Inns throughout the New England area. She also played the mother in “The Music Man” with Lakes Region Summer Theatre and most recently, has performed for the past five years in Streetcar Co.’s Theater in the Park.
On or off stage Joan lights up a room with her energy, appreciated by students both young and old. Her students have gone on to study dance at a number of different colleges and Universities and she is proud so many have gone on to become dance educators themselves!
Joan is thankful to have a career she loves.

Ian first hit the dance floor right here in Laconia at age four and hasn’t stopped since. After fourteen years of instruction and performing locally Ian joined the Performing Arts Program at Youth With A Mission-Metro New York. There he studied and performed with an international cast across the eastern half of the United States in high-intensity performances with YWAM’s “All Access” Dance Company.”
After his third tour with “All Access” Ian returned to Laconia and has been a choreographer and dance instructor for students in local dance studios, including FCAC, for eight years. Ian has also been a guest instructor for dance workshops including Hip-Hop classes in the Boston area. Ian has also had the opportunity to study under world-renowned dance instructors with the internationally acclaimed Ballet Magnificent in Jackson, Mississippi.
In 2008, representing Frates Creative Arts Center, Ian obtained First Place in the Lakes Region Dancing with the Local Stars. Ian has been the choreographer for stage productions for area schools and musical ensembles.
Ian enjoys being part of stage presentations as a performer also. He began right here at age seven with the On Stage Theatre Company. In addition to On Stage he has performed with The Streetcar Company, The Wesley Players, Lakes Region Summer Theatre, YWAM-Metro New York and danced opening acts for musicians at Soul Fest. He has enjoyed over a dozen roles that include; “Edmund” in “Narnia,” “Tevye” in “Fiddler On The Roof” and most recently “Mike” in “A Chorus Line.”
Ian truly enjoys sharing his energy, intensity and heart for “speaking through moving” in dance with the students at Frates Creative Arts Center.
